According to “A Call to Men,” the national organization dedicated to ending violence and discrimination against women and girls, domestic violence has typically been an issue that women have dealt with. Men should be held accountable and play a significant role in addressing this issue. A Call to Men believes that preventing domestic and sexual violence is primarily the responsibility of men. We as Men Choosing Non-Violence agree and feel just as strongly.

Since 2007, a diverse group of men representing Allen County have organized events, educational workshops, and activities as a task force of the Partnership for Violence Free Families. National speakers have presented dynamic information on ways in which local men can make a difference in their communities. We encourage all men to be pro-active in stopping the abuse of women and children in Allen County. 10 Things Men Can Do:
1. Acknowledge and understand how male dominance and unhealthy manhood lead to violence against women 6. Break out of the 'Man Box" -Challenge traditional images of manhood that stop us from intervening.
2. Examine and challenge our beliefs and the role we play in supporting men who are abusive. 7. Accept and own our responsibility that violence against women will not end until we become part of the solution.
3. Recognize and stop acting together secretly by getting out of socially defined roles and take a stance against violence. 8. Stop supporting that violence is due to mental illness, lack of anger control, alcohol and other drug use. The violence is rooted in male dominance and the socialization of men.
4. Remeber that our silence is affirming; when we choose not to speak out against violence we are supporting it. 9 Take responsibiliy for creating appropriate and effective ways to educate and raise awareness about domestic and sexual violence prevention.
5. Educate and re-educate our sons and other young men about our responsibility in preventing violence against women. 10. Create responsible and accountable men's initiatives in your community to support domestic and sexual violence prevention.
